Interesting article in Helsingin Sanomat today about India’s educational system

India is waking up to issues around its educational system. Only 50 percent of women can read (75 percent of men can read), the university system is now divided into two categories: IIT seven top faculties and 13 others are ranked as top of breed while 230 other universities run by local states have funding issues and have issues getting competent teachers. On average, an assistant professor earns 335 Euros a month and this is the reason why most talented are flocking to universities in Hong Kong, Singapore, United States and Europe. I have seen India prices creeping up and newspapers are reporting Indian companies looking for affordable resources in countries such as Malesia, China etc.

To be able to keep a sustainable business, India needs to do something about the educational system….. Only 0.34 percent of the gross national product of India is used to education and this is far too little when compared to the Western world.
