Rising costs, product piracy could be taking its toll on China’s competitiveness, according to American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai.China may be losing its competitive advantage, mainly because of rising costs, according to a survey of companies compiled by the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai. I have seen this trend happening on multiple fronts and identified when discussing with business executives doing business in China. Cost inflation, people jumping from one job to the other because of better pay has become a real problem in China and I do not foresee this to change any time soon.

India must look beyond cheaper staff, expert says – I completely agree

According to ComputerWorld Indian outsourcers must offer more than low-cost services. According to the article, a model based primarily on the low cost of labor is not going to be sustainable in the term. I fully agree with this and this is where the nation will either succeed or fail. Price inflation has been going on for quite a while and this has made quite a few organizations to revisit their strategy on outsourcing/offshoring.

China and India under Research – Some Books to Explore

I am in the process of researching both China and India for my upcoming book. The new concept Chindia can be studied by reading the book from BusinessWeek (edited by Peter Engardio) “Chindia – How China and India Are Revolutionzing Global Business”. This book can be reviewed from Amazon.com by in following link. Two other books can be a good resource as well: The book from Jairam Ramesh “ Making Sense of Chindia – Reflections on China and India” and the book from Waheguru Pal Singh Sidhu and Jing-dong Yuan “China and India – Cooperation or Conflict”.

There are multiple other books that are interesting that address topics around China and India and I will be commenting on them later on.

I have worked with multiple Indian companies for the past couple of years and I have to say it has been very, very intersting and also challenging. The challenges are mainly from cultural reasons and I am not saying it is negative; it is just so different when compared to Scandinavian or Finnish culture. It was very interesting to read comments about this book from a true Indian Jay Arjun Singh and his blog Jabberwock. His review of the book and be found here. As part of my globalization research, there are multiple good books to learn from as you can see from the included picture. As you can see, there are multiple things on my table and lots to read.
